CITF and Beacon Council Seek to Improve Permit Issuing and Inspection in Miami Dade—and Need Your Help

The CITF (Construction Industry Task Force) is a group of construction professional trade associations and their leaders that include the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Associated General Contractors (AGC), Construction Association of South Florida (CASF), Latin Builders Association (LBA) and the Florida Transportation Builders Association (FTBA). The group meets quarterly and sometimes more often to discuss and act jointly on issues common to the entire construction industry.

The group also works towards coordinating event calendars and scheduling at least one joint industry event each year. Last year the first of these events was held at the BankAtlantic Center with Florida Governor Rick Scott as guest speaker. The group is now working on scheduling Senator Marco Rubio for a spring or summer event.

The group has discussed many issues currently before the Florida Legislature and is working cooperatively to see that the industry is heard by legislators.

A major effort of CITF is the streamlining and improvement of the permit and inspection procedures in Miami Dade and Broward Counties. In Miami Dade, the CITF has joined forces with the Beacon Council in the effort. Recently, AGC Past President Jorge Munilla who is the current chairman of CITF joined in a panel discussion with the Beacon Council, the Mayor’s office and the County Commission on the effort at streamlining.   The County has established a committee that includes CITF members to address all issues in the process. Among the items they will address are coordination between different agencies such as DERM and Fire Department coordination and unification of procedures in local building departs and the County, etc.

How You Can Help
To make the efforts as comprehensive as possible, each member organization of CITF are seeking suggestions on improving the system. If you or your employees have suggestions on ways to improve the permitting and inspection process in Miami Dade, PLEASE send them as email to the AGC office at lenmills@sfagc.org
