This month's topic:
Recognizing & Managing Distressed Trade Contractors
Trade Contractors are at risk of defaulting in good times as much as bad times. How does one identify potential distress in specialty contractors, what are effective action plans to confront the issue, and how do you deal with a default should it occur? Our program will be led by Jim Richert, SDI RE Manager for AXA XL and Brandon Beane, VP of Risk Management for Coastal Construction. There will be ample time for discussion after the program which is typically just as valuable as the presentation itself.

The South Florida AGC’s Contractors Only Dinner Series provides our GC and Prime Contractor Members with timely information, presented by experts and colleagues in a relaxed setting.
You, the General Contractor, are increasingly asked to or unknowingly take on more and more of the risk for design, especially in the design delegation scenario. Has this been your experience? Do you know the potential gaps and pitfalls that increase your exposure?
Join us at our next Contractors Only Dinner where we will discuss how these risks manifest themselves first in Contracts, Plans, and Drawings through Precon, Ops, and post-completion. We will review the various approaches available to manage, mitigate, and transfer these risks.

This Month's Topic:
Revenue Recognition in the Construction Industry
Our presenter will be Emilio Alvarez, CPA one of the nation’s most respected names in construction accounting.
Before 2019, contractors had industry-specific guidance for how to count and report their income under U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Taking their place is Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 606, Revenue from Contracts with Customers. The important new term for this is “performance obligation,” which isn’t necessarily the same as a single contract. Under the new rules, the key takeaway is that construction businesses need to use ASC guidance to identify each performance obligation and the most appropriate way to account for its revenue as it’s delivered.
Our presentation will be held at Mariposa in Neiman Marcus at Merrick Park. Join us for cocktails at 6 pm followed by dinner and our presentation at 7pm. Make sure you, your CFO, and the rest of your financial team join us to learn firsthand how these new rules will impact your business.
